I have what seems to be the same problem. Let us know how you get on or post some of the above outputs. This should put the server through diagnostics. But we can try:Īs has been suggested you can try running diagnostics, this would be done as follows from the ALOM.

There are a few commands that you can run from the ALOM to check what is happening, but I am not sure how much information some of them will show as the data might have been cleared when the server was powered off to be moved. Turns out there was a loose connection from the SCSI backplane. I have seen this scenario many times all with different causes. I'm not exactly familiar with the ALOM prompt but this server has been in service for months now and we pulled it to move it into service elsewhere. Issuing the poweron command from the sc prompt will spin the fans and disks but I can never get a system console.Īfter issuing the poweron command if I issue the poweroff command it will say: "Host system power is already off". If I power on either way the power light does not come on on the front of the server.

I am connected through the serial port via hyperterm on a windows box. V240 only powers on to ALOM I have a 240 here that will only power up to the ALOM. Jay Best way to reset the /SP and console is to remove the power. I'll reply to the thread if I find anything else out.

I have my x4600 connected to a serial console switch and I'd rather just use that as soon as I rack the box. I did this and it works however I'm not a huge fan of the "fix". It still redirects the console output to VGA as soon as the grubloader starts.Įvie Sun's suggestion to me was to hook up a monitor and keyboard, power-cycle the box, get into the BIOS and load the Optimal Default Settings. I've compared the menu.lst settings to another server that was received pre-installed with u6, and they now look identical. I reinstalled the O/S with Solaris 10 u6, and the serial consoles stopped working. When we received the servers in - pre-installed with Solaris 10 u5 - the consoles worked fine. I know this thread is old, but I'm still having issues with x4600 (and x4500) consoles and their serial connections. Long term, one change you'll have to make is to the grub menu file (menu.lst) that redirects console to the serial port and specifies baud rate etc. Grab a monitor and keyboard and check it out that way to start with. Al So.The previous poster is correct in that the output goes to the VGA by default. If you have this resolved, appreciate you send a note. I tried your steps, the machine rebooted (by itself) and hang on the way up. I just opened a ticket about this garbage behavior. What's happening is the server/solaris is deciding that the VGA port and USB keyboard (which doesn't even need to be connected) is now your console, not the console session through ILOM. Am I supposed to see BIOS level messages? Yeah, it's pretty stupid isn't it? To stop, type ESC ( The commands worked like a charm, unfortunately I still not see anything redirected to the console. if the graceful reset or power cycle not workĪre you sure you want to immediately stop /SYS (y/n)? yĪre you sure you want to start /SYS (y/n)? yĪre you sure you want to start /SP/console (y/n)? y I have tried to power on/off the system to no avail. You should see the outputs What method would you recommend for the reset.

Login SPIP as root/changeme (changeme is the default password ) I am able to use all the ILOM show, set commands though.Ĭonsole redirection is set to "Always" in the BIOS.Īny clues? It was my understanding that I should be able to see the BIOS through the serial console. X4600 - ILOM serial console redirection - Servers General Discussion I login, start the console and nothing even when I power cycle I do not see any messages.
